The 2016 women’s Australian Open final is all set and will take place on Saturday evening in Melbourne between Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber. This will be the final ‘Set Points’ of the tournament… I’ve really enjoyed producing this new feature and hopefully you have enjoyed it too! I am planning to keep it up it…
I’ve been waiting for that shock to wake up to in the morning and it finally came… while Angelique Kerber was the higher seed, most were expecting Victoria Azarenka to build on her 6-0 head-to-head lead. Kerber produced a superb display to win in straight sets. It will be a battle of the K’s in the…
In what was a rather predictable day of tennis, all four quarter-finals on Tuesday were decided in straight sets. While there have been some super storylines over the past week and a bit, it’s hard to circle out many memorable matches. Hopefully the last few days will fix that. Anyway, here are some highlights from day…
The quarter-finals of the 2016 Australian Open are all set after a pretty dramatic day of WTA tennis. The first two quarters went as most expected, but the last two featured upsets with the unseeded players both prevailing. Day 8 was a tough one for me to follow so i’ve probably missed lots of good…
The four quarter-finalists are set in the top halves of both draws with a final rematch all set between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova in the women’s draw. I failed in my attempts to stay up for Sharapova-Bencic but did wake up at 3.30am with my body desperate to know the result. It’s been a…
Day 6 certainly had its moments, headlined by an eventful first night match on the Rod Laver Arena. The match between Madison Keys and Ana Ivanovic was halted early into the second set after Ivanovic’s coach, Nigel Sears collapsed. It was a dreadful situation but thankfully, it sounds like Nigel is doing OK. Ivanovic played…
I can’t believe we are five days into the Australian Open already… Slams go so quick! The fourth round matches from the top half of the women’s draw are all set and on the whole, there’s plenty to get excited for the second week. Here are ten things that struck a chord with me from day…
Day 4 of the 2016 Australian Open was quite eventful with four more seeds going out. The slate of third round matches contains just two all-seeded match-ups, of which both come in the wide-open fourth quarter. There have been some fantastic storylines already this week and it’s been nice to see some players who produced upsets…
Day 3 at the 2016 Australian Open saw another top eight seed depart the tournament in Petra Kvitova. Her second round match against Daria Gavrilova was largely anticipated to be a tough one and proved to be just that with the Aussie player prevailing, 6-4 6-4. The only other seeded upset saw the in-form, Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated by a…
While there were fewer upsets on day 2 of the 2016 Australian Open, these ones were rather more seismic in their impact. The fourth quarter of the draw has now lost its two highest seeds in Simona Halep (2) and Venus Williams (8). It was easily the toughest quarter to predict and while I was unsure of both…
