Set Points: Highlights from Day 9 at the 2016 Australian Open

In what was a rather predictable day of tennis, all four quarter-finals on Tuesday were decided in straight sets. While there have been some super storylines over the past week and a bit, it’s hard to circle out many memorable matches. Hopefully the last few days will fix that. Anyway, here are some highlights from day 9 at the Australian Open including some good news about Lucie! 🙂

Set PointsAgnieszka Radwanska was first into the Australian Open semi-finals with a 6-1 6-3 victory over Carla Suárez Navarro. I liked her last comment in her on-court interview where she acknowledged that she will have to be at her very best in the next round to stand a chance of reaching the final.

Once again, Jimmie48 was on hand to snap the first semi-final between Radwanska and Suárez Navarro.

I was eager to wake up and see the result of Serena-Maria this morning but it was business as usual. Here are the stats for that match…

And photos of the handshake!

Going back to yesterday, here’s a piece by Reem Abulleil about the Zhang-Keys match and their thoughts in press. Zhang’s press conference is also linked below too.

The women’s doubles is reaching its conclusion… Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka had a huge comeback win today and will play Yi-Fan Xu and Saisai Zheng in the semi-finals. The other semi-final features Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza against Julia Goerges and Karolina Pliskova.

Awww I like this.

I liked this on-court interview with Roger Federer after he defeated Tomas Berdych in straight sets. While i’ve found the men’s draw to be rather underwhelming, a Federer v Djokovic semi-final is still an exciting prospect.

A bit of scheduling news… it sounds like Maria Sharapova fans will have to wait a while to see her in action again this year.

And finally, i’m delighted to see that Lucie is on the mend and we should hopefully see her on the tennis court soon 🙂

  2. Having watched all Djokovic’s matches thus far I’m terribly concerned about the semi final against Roger. It’s been a lazy effort where he’s done nothing particularly well. And Federer is serving beautifully and his backhand has really been working for him.
We’ve been here before with them (the last two Wimbledon, last years US Open) but this isnt a final.
