Kvitova d. Keys in 3 sets – Preview HERE
Gavrilova d. Svitolina in 3 sets – This is a tricky one… on paper I think Svitolina should win but it’s been a really good match-up for Gavrilova this year. Edge with Dasha?
Konta d. Zhang in 2 sets – Thought about three sets in this one because Zhang has looked inspired at times this week but it’s hard to go against their two matches this year including just last week in Wuhan. Konta has looked really solid these past two weeks and in fact most of the year on hard courts.
Radwanska d. Shvedova in 2 sets – I can never quite figure Shvedova out… sometimes she looks like a world beater and other times it just doesn’t happen for her. One thing for sure is that Shvedova is in great form right now. There’s a small part of me that thinks she might come out and win this. The other safer side is telling me Radwanska will be totally solid and win relatively comfortably. I think i’m with the latter but a bit of uncertainty!

Day 7 = 1/1
Shvedova d. Cornet in 2 sets – Shvedova’s been superb of late… based on the players she has beaten in the last week, i’d fancy her to win this one vs. Cornet.

Day 6 = 2/5
*Elina proved me wrong haha!*
Wozniacki d. Radwanska in 3 sets – For the third time in as many weeks, we get Radwanska v Wozniacki! Woz was knackered for their Wuhan clash and I think she should be better prepared physically for this one having had a day off. I’ll go with Caro but it’s tough to make a pick…
Kerber d. Svitolina in 2 sets – Fancied Svitolina to beat Kerber earlier this year in Montreal but Kerber’s mental toughness saw her through despite tiredness. If Svitolina did get into a winning position, i’d expect more jitters even though she has beaten Kerber before! Liked Angie pre-tournament and still sticking with her.
Halep d. Zhang in 3 sets – Should be a fascinating match after their Australian Open encounter where Zhang won 6-4 6-3 against a struggling Halep. I could see Zhang, buoyed by the home crowd, getting a set but Halep for the win.
Konta d. Pliskova in 3 sets – Preview HERE
Gavrilova d. Garcia in 3 sets – This could be a good one! Garcia’s been playing a little bit better of late so fancy it to be closer than their last match in Cincy where Gavrilova won in straights. Still, Garcia makes me nervous (it will take a lot to reverse that!) so i’d have more faith in Gavrilova scrapping through.

Garcia d. Peng in 3 sets – Fascinating match-up, I like how Garcia has been competing of late and she’s had a couple of decent three set wins. The crowd could get under her skin so hmmm on the fence with this one.
Kerber d. Strycova in 2 sets – Aside from their Madrid match earlier this year, Kerber’s dominated this match-up with straight set wins. Add to that, Strycova has played a brutal schedule of matches in the past few weeks.
Pliskova d. Kasatkina in 3 sets – Intriguing match, the pair are tied at 1-1 this year; Pliskova produced one of her best displays of the year in Indian Wells and Kasatkina won on clay in Rome. Pliskova hasn’t look as focused since the US Open which is understandable. Kasatkina’s brought back her year a bit after a first real dodgy patch after a gruelling Olympics. Based on the court and conditions, I think Pliskova might edge it.
Konta d. Babos in 2 sets – High on Konta right now, she looked brilliant in her first round match against Sevastova.
Svitolina d. Lisicki in 2 sets – Good first win for Lisicki but can she back it up? She’ll need to produce a super solid display to prevail.
Bacsinszky d. Gavrilova in 3 sets – Big wins for both Bacsinszky and Gavrilova in the first round having lost their first matches in Wuhan. Gavrilova won their only previous match in Rome last year. I think it could be a tight one and after the way she battled past Arruabarrena in the first round, just two games from defeat, i’m sticking with Timea on this one.

Day 4 = 5/6
Kvitova d. Wang in 2 sets – Intrigued to see how Petra gets on in Beijing, inclined to say she might have another great week. This is an ideal opener as Wang doesn’t have a great deal of experience on the tour.
Zhang d. Riske in 3 sets – Zhang played a fine match against an admittedly lacklustre Stosur in the first round, while Riske had an equally impressive win against Pavs. I think Zhang is the type of player that can thrive with the positive energy from the crowd.
Halep d. Wickmayer in 2 sets – Wickmayer won their first three matches on tour (pre-Halep rise up the rankings) but Halep won their last match, a high quality fourth rounder at last year’s Australian Open. I like Wickmayer but doubt she can sustain a consistent enough level to beat Halep.
Wozniacki d. Vinci in 3 sets – Their last match in New Haven was a three set thriller where Wozniacki saved match points to win 7-6(7) in the third set. I’d take Caro in three again.
Cibulkova d. Cornet in 3 sets – A little on the fence with this one, I went Cornet last week in Wuhan and now i’m going for Cibulkova! Will depend on fatigue for Domi although she has had two days off.
Kuznetsova d. Doi in 3 sets – Kuznetsova has been much steadier in her first matches at tournaments this year as she always used to be an upset risk. Wouldn’t be surprised by three sets but I think Sveta could be primed for another good run.

WTA Beijing R2 Predictions for Monday
Day 3 = 4/4
Radwanska d. Makarova in 2 sets – A Wuhan rematch… Makarova rather imploded in Wuhan as Radwanska got so many balls back into play. Makarova will do extremely well to turn that result around… don’t really see it!
Muguruza d. Putintseva in 2 sets – Preview HERE
Keys d. Mladenovic in 3 sets – Mladenovic can run close with Keys but I think the American player has the edge in the mental stakes. Mladenovic crawled across the finish line against Jankovic after so many opportunities to close it out sooner than she did. The win over JJ may at least have given her some confidence.
Shvedova d. Bencic in 3 sets – Thrilled to see BB back in action. I think this will be tough against an in-form Shvedova.
WTA Beijing R1 Predictions for Monday
Day 3 = 5/8
Kerber d. Siniakova in 2 sets – I like Kerber’s chances in Beijing. This is a tricky-ish match but I don’t see Siniakova having the staying power to win.
V.Williams d. Peng in 3 sets – I think this could be a really competitive match. Peng has been competing well but not getting the wins – she has lost six of her last eight three setters.
Bacsinszky d. Arruabarrena in 3 sets – I’m sensing this could be a struggle for Bacsinszky. Arruabarrena’s coming off a title run in Seoul so will be super confident. Bacsinszky has had some rest days now from the viral illness that forced her to pull out of Wuhan. he won her first doubles match in Beijing with Ostapenko on Sunday.
Garcia d. Goerges in 2 sets – A big hitting match that really could go either way with their games… just feeling Garcia for this one?
Svitolina d. Maria in 2 sets – Maria’s won their last two matches but they were back in 2012. I’d be surprised if Svitolina doesn’t win this match although Maria is the type of player that I could see Svitolina struggling to put away so now i’m unconvincing myself!
McHale d. Gavrilova in 3 sets – On the fence with this one
Kasatkina d. Chirico in 2 sets – Kasatkina seems to relish this match-up and dropped just two games when they last played in Wuhan.
Siegemund d. Strycova in 3 sets – Shame this is on an outside court, could be feisty one! I would have gone Strycova but thought that Siegemund might have more in the tank.
WTA Beijing R1 Predictions for Sunday
Day 2 = 7/10
Keys d. Duan in 2 sets – Duan’s a bigggg hitter so this will be a helmets-at-the-ready match-up. Fancy a tight set in there but Keys to come through in straights.
Vinci d. Zheng in 2 sets – Zheng’s lost her last four matches since beating Puig in the first round of the US Open. I think Vinci will be able to cope with the change-ups that Zheng often implements.
Radwanska d. Wang in 2 sets – Aga in straights
Zhang d. Stosur in 3 sets – Zhang won their last match at the US Open just last month. Zhang’s form has remained decent through Asia while Stosur lost her first match in Asia last week to Wozniacki in Wuhan.
Wozniacki d. Vandeweghe in 2 sets – Vandeweghe’s on a shocking run of form – she’s the type of player that could cause Wozniacki some problems but at the same time, her inconsistencies will feed into Wozniacki’s strengths, particularly with a recent rejuvenation.
Suárez Navarro d. Shvedova in 3 sets – Could be a tough one for CSN, but she’s playing solid stuff and dealing well with pressure.
Konta d. Sevastova in 2 sets – Interesting one as Sevastova won their last match at the US Open. The Latvian pulled out of her last match in Wuhan with a shoulder injury. I’d go for Konta, who looked pretty good in Wuhan with three straight sets wins and a loss to the eventual champ, Petra Kvitova
Jankovic d. Mladenovic in 3 sets – Most intriguing match of the day and even more so because they haven’t played before. I thought JJ looked so tight at the end of her match against Strycova but generally has looked good in Asia so far this year. Just a feeling she might be able to neutralise Mlad’s strengths.
Pavlyuchenkova d. Riske in 3 sets – Pavs in three, Riske makes me a bit nervous in tight matches.
Babos d. Kovinic in 3 sets – Kovinic has lost seven of her last nine matches. These are the types of matches that Babos has been winning this year.
WTA Beijing R1 Predictions for Saturday
Day 1 – 4/6
Puig d. Wickmayer in 3 sets – Wicky leads the H2H with Puig, 2-0. Puig’s results haven’t been great since the Olympics which is understandable following such a carrer defining result. I was impressed with Wickmayer against CSN in Wuhan in the first round, but she collapsed somewhat in the second set. A tight one, going for Puig to rebound.
Lucic-Baroni d. Lisicki in 3 sets – Lucic-Baroni lost her last match the world number 365 in Quebec City, Danielle Lao, while Lisicki has won back-to-back matches on just three occasion in 2016. I have no idea what to expect from this match other than a lot of wild hitting. Instinct went for MLB after watching Lisicki’s last match…
Muguruza d. Begu in 2 sets – Begu pulled out of her last match in Wuhan due to a rib injury. Muguruza’as not been been playing well but I think she’ll get through this one in her first match as Beijing defending champ.
Cornet d. Rogers in 2 sets – Cornet’s been so up and down this year but did well in Wuhan to qualify and then had to contend with Cibulkova in the first round who went onto reach the final. Rogers has won just two matches since her dream run to the quarters at the French.
Putintseva d. Ostapenko in 3 sets – THIS MATCH IS STREAMED…. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Ostapenko has the big strokes but I think Poots could drive her mad with her intensity and variety.
Makarova d. Vesnina in 3 sets – Vesnina hasn’t played for a while due to injury which is the main reason why i’m going for Makarova.
