By virtue of a quarter-final win at the Western & Southern Open with her partner, Barbora Strycova, it has been confirmed that Lucie Safarova will rise to world number in the doubles rankings next Monday! I’m absolutely thrilled for Lucie to add this achievement to her career highlights. Lucie and Barbora beat Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua (aka ABCD) in a rain-resumed match, 6-3 7-6(4). Unfortunately, Lucie and Barbora weren’t able to double up as they went out in the semi-finals to Chan Yung-Jan and Martina Hingis later on Friday. Another big plus of WTA TV though is that more doubles is being streamed and there are many more opportunities to watch doubles going forward!
You could sense Lucie’s excitement as she was quick to share the WTA’s post on social media. Also, I loved Barbora’s post on Instagram with Lucie! It feels slightly bittersweet as Lucie will replace Beth at the top of the rankings. It’s been a sad time after Beth’s injury at Wimbledon with Team Bucie having looked in a great position to potentially hold all four Slams at the same time. Still, Lucie and Barbora are a great team and seem to be sharing plenty of laughs on and off the court.
Congrats, Lucie! 😊😊😊
Happy for you and your faourite tennis player, James! The video is fun to watch as you can see how much it means to her.
