Unfortunately no previews… i’m not feeling very well tonight. I’m hoping I will be better for Eastbourne at the weekend :-S
Kerber and Lisicki are both looking good in Brum; Angie toughed out a three setter against Pironkova, who played some superb tennis in the second set of their match. Sabine bagged a new serving record with 27 aces in her straight sets win over Bencic. I’m happy for all the Sabine fans in Birmingham who got to see her win! Genie had another loss… it’s not the losses that are surprising, but the nature of them. Every week seems to be another pretty hefty blow to Genie’s confidence… losing to Suarez Navarro in Rome having had match points, losing to Shvedova in Holland from 4-0 up in third set and today, losing to Mladenovic for the second time this year with a third set bagel. It’s uncomfortable watching Genie slump over the past few months and I hope she gets a kinder draw in Eastbourne and can pick up a win.
WTA Birmingham 3rd Round Predictions
Carla Suarez Navarro d. Svetlana Kuznetsova in 3 sets
Simona Halep d. Klara Koukalova in 2 sets
Angelique Kerber d. Jelena Jankovic in 2 sets (1 tight, 1 easy)

Christina McHale d. Katerina Siniakova in 3 sets
Barbora Strycova d. Kristina Mladenovic in 3 sets
Daniela Hantuchova d. Michelle Larcher de Brito in 2 tight sets
Get well soon, James! Although I don’t like Genie that much, it is hard to watch her matches, you’re very right with that!
Kuz d. CSN
Halep d. Koukalova
Kerber d.Jankovic
Lisicki d. Rybarikova
Siniakova d. McHale
Strycova d. Mlad
Hantuchova d. MLdB (about this I’m really not sure)

I feel Sveta can defeat CSN,to me she is a better grass court player.

Sveta SHOULD be a good grass court player. Lord knows why she has such terrible results on grass though. I’d love to see her make a good run here though.
Hope you feel better soon James!

Andrew,Sveta would have to be one of the finest athletes on the womens tour,I know she is in the twilight of her career now,in saying that to me should have had more GS titles to her name.If has been hard over the years to be a fan of Svets,to me in ways she really has never reached her true potential.

You aren’t alone, I think based on raw skill she’s the second most talented player on tour (behind Serena) and possibly the third best of the last few decades (behind Henin also). Roger Federer has stated a few times that she’s his favourite women’s player and he rarely has anything positive to say about the wta.
I don’t really understand why she stopped playing doubles. I think if anything she should increase her schedule in doubles and only play the slams, mandatory and a few premier 5 events in singles.

Bouchard isn’t slumping , just look at her record . She did great in the slams that’s it. You guys acting like she goes deep in other tournaments. I don’t see a big differences in her game from now and then. This girl benefited from easy draws. Now that a lot of young players have raised their game doubt she will go far at Wimbledon. After the US Open her ranking will be back where they belong in the low 30s.

My only prediction is for Siniakova to cry during the first set vs. McHale.
