WTA Doha SF Predictions for Friday
Radwanska d. Suárez Navarro in 2 sets
Petkovic d. Ostapenko in 3 sets
WTA Doha QF Predictions for Thursday
Ostapenko d. S.Zheng in 2 sets – Wowsers to this quarter-final. Both playing well but I was impressed with what I have seen of Ostapenko this week who has successfully been able to hit through the court.
Muguruza d. Petkovic in 2 sets – struggling to decide between 2 and 3 sets… Preview HERE
Radwanska d. Vinci in 2 sets – Vinci has been superb so far this year and toughing out the wins but I wonder whether she may be fatigued for this one. Vinci’s two wins over Radwanska have both come on fast hard courts.
Suárez Navarro d. Vesnina in 3 sets – Never played before, Vesnina was hitting winners all over the shop at the end of her match with Wozniacki. Carla’s stats have been clean so far this week. Definitely considered the upset but staying ‘safe’ with this pick.
WTA Doha R3 Predictions for Wednesday
Bacsinszky d. Suárez Navarro in 3 sets – Delighted to see Timea winning matches again. Their last two matches have gone the distance with Timea winning their most recent match in Beijing, 7-5 in the third. I’d fancy another hard fought match and giving the tiniest of edges to Bacsinszky… the first win over BMS was huge and might give her the confidence to keep building. She did something similar in Beijing last year.
Kvitova d. Ostapenko in 3 sets – Ostapenko played a great match to defeat Diyas in round 1. Her second match against Kuznetsova was not streamed but getting a bagel second set was impressive. Who knows with Petra, if she can win one, may-be she can win another one!
Radwanska d. Niculescu in 2 sets – Radwanska looks like the clear favourite to win right now with the exodus of seeds. Niculescu did third set bagel Radwanska in Nottingham last year but Radwanska’s form and more importantly, her mental resolve, is vastly improved since then.
Muguruza d. Babos in 3 sets – I nearly went totally wild and went for Babos in this one but my success with seeded upsets on Tuesday has tamed my confidence. Muguruza was good on Tuesday but successfully pinned Hibino behind the baseline. Won’t be so easy against an in-form, Babos…
Vinci d. Buyukakcay in 2 sets – Vinci keeps digging out wins and i’d expect the same here.
Bouchard d. S.Zheng in 2 sets – Watching the scoreline unfold, it looked like another messy one for Bouchard BUT she got the win and that’s all that matters! Saving the match points in R1 was huge and while Saisai’s playing well, i’d go for Bouchard, with a 2-0 H2H also, to get another win.
Wozniacki d. Vesnina in 2 sets – Haven’t played for a while but always been a pretty good match-up for Caro. Tempted to go for three sets though.
Petkovic d. Vandeweghe in 3 sets – Hmmmmmm… if CoCo gets her serve firing, then CoCo. But Petko’s playing well and most importantly, playing with freedom.
WTA Doha R2 Predictions for Tuesday
*Close with Kasatkina, misguided with Dasha and spot on with Monica! All in all, could have been worse…*
Radwanska d. Bondarenko in 2 sets – First match in a while for Radwanska while K.Bond has come through qualifying and a first round match. I think the first set will be very close but Aga should come through in straights.
Kvitova d. Strycova in 3 sets – Who knows?! Strycova won her first match pretty convincingly against Mlads having reached the final in Dubai. I thought she would be tired but a good win! Kvitova’s won just one match… but for some reason, I have an small ounce of faith in Petra winning this one.
Kerber d. S.Zheng in 2 sets – Preview HERE
Halep d. Vesnina in 2 sets – Good win for Vesnina against Garcia. I think Halep but there is an element of doubt for me…
Muguruza d. Hibino in 3 sets – Very tempted to go for the upset in this one, Muguruza hasn’t found her rhythm yet and indicated last week she may pull out of Doha. Hibino’s a quality player too.
Kasatkina d. Vinci in 3 sets – Going for the upset. Really like Kasatkina’s game and Vinci has never had great results in Doha.
Niculescu d. Jankovic in 3 sets – I don’t trust Jankovic (sorry JJ!) and Niculescu won their last match in Doha from 2013…
Gavrilova d. Wozniacki in 3 sets – Preview HERE
Bouchard d. Allertova in 3 sets – Preview HERE
Bencic d. Vandeweghe in 3 sets – Don’t like this match-up for BB!
Suárez Navarro d. Vekic in 2 sets – Vekic can catch a hot streak but favouring CSN on this court.
Kuznetsova d. Ostapenko in 3 sets – A toss up, Ostapenko was hitting through the court well in her win against Diyas. Kuznetsova just though…
Petkovic d. Gasparyan in 3 sets – Preview HERE
Bacsinszky d. Putintseva in 3 sets – Tough one, Timea seems to be a real confidence player and yesterday’s win against BMS, as up and down as it may have been, could have been a real boost.
WTA Doha R1 Predictions for Monday
*Thoughts – Nice to have a good day after a woeful week in Dubai. Pleased with the Allertova pick!*
Vinci d. Tsurenko in 2 sets – Tsurenko has been in poor form so far this year but I don’t think the court will suit Vinci’s game. I think the Italian comes through but not expecting her to go deep in Doha.
Wozniacki d. Konjuh in 2 sets – No idea with Woz at the moment. Konjuh’s not got going this year but has a game that can peak. Perhaps three sets but I really would be surprised if Wozniacki, even in her recent form, loses this match.
Jankovic d. Cepelova in 3 sets – I could see an upset in this one! I’m sticking with JJ but upset alert is on.
Kuznetsova d. Goerges in 3 sets – This feels WEIRD but I have a nagging feeling that Kuznetsova could win this, despite going down 0-6 1-6 to Goerges in Dubai. Different court, different week and Goerges was sensational last week, it’s unlikely that she can replicate that. Also, I think the court will suit Kuznetsova more.
Garcia d. Vesnina in 3 sets – Tough one, could go either way. Garcia has confidence from her run in Dubai so that might pull her through.
Errani d. Pironkova in 2 sets – It might all catch up with Errani but I really like her draw in Doha.
Mladenovic d. Strycova in 2 sets – Edging on the side of Babs being tired and mentally drained from Dubai.
Allertova d. Svitolina in 3 sets – My stupid prediction of the day. I’ve lost my original confidence with this one! I really like Allertova and if she can hit through, could challenge Svitolina. After watching today though, tough ask on this court…
Niculescu d. Lisicki in 3 sets – Hmmmmm? Not sure what to say about this one! Lisicki hasn’t played since Aus Open and needs to play a focused and committed match to get past Niculescu. Won the last two matches against Niculescu but not sure this time…
Bacsinszky d. Mattek-Sands in 2 sets – Both have been in poor form. Not got much confidence in Timea right now but giving her the benefit of the doubt.
Gavrilova d. Doi in 3 sets – Court favours Daria I think? She needs a decent performance to erase last week’s loss to Ivanovic in Dubai. Doi’s decent though…
Flipkens d. Vandeweghe in 3 sets – On the fence
Babos d. Brengle in 3 sets – On the fence
Shvedova d. Hibino in 3 sets – Hmmm Shvedova did well in Dubai, can be erratic between tournaments though!
WTA Doha R1 Predictions
Vekic d. Al Nabhani in 2 sets – Vekic got the lucky break… Al Nabhani always gets a wildcard into qualifying or the main draw of Doha and has yet to win a set in seven previous attempts.
Pliskova d. Gasparyan in 3 sets – Up and down with Pliskova but I think she will get the better of Gasparyan… Preview HERE.
Bouchard d. Sevastova in 3 sets – Bouchard has had a decent break from the tour so may be a little rusty. I think she’s in a good position right now and while Sevastova is solid, going for Genie to come through.
Petkovic d. Makarova in 2 sets – Always gone for Petko in this match-up and won’t be changing for this one… Preview HERE.
Lepchenko d. S.Zheng in 2 sets – Zheng won just last week in qualifying for Dubai, coming through an absolutely brutal opening set before winning in straights. As this is the WTA, I really wouldn’t be surprised to see the result reverse…
Ostapenko d. Diyas in 3 sets – Toss-up this one, really could go either way with neither enjoying much success of late.
Kasatkina d. Wang in 2 sets – Gone for Kasatkina to have a run… so sorry, Daria haha
Schmiedlova d. Putintseva in 3 sets – This is the toughest section of the draw for me to make any predictions for as it is so wide open. Schmieds has had a pretty dire start to the year but I could see her getting the W here. Her serve is all over the place, but her groundstrokes are still there. Expecting a really tight match.
Hradecka d. Buyukakcay in 2 sets – Hradecka has been shaky this year but 2-0 H2H lead over Buyukakcay and would fancy her to win this, perhaps going the distance.
Beck d. Bondarenko in 3 sets – Could go either way, Bondarenko’s been in decent form but then so has Beck who had that big win in Fed Cup action.
