This post brings together the highlights from the 2017 Western & Southern Open with a comprehensive media round-up from a great week in Cincinnati. This has been a really exciting (and hectic!) week for the blog as we’ve had photos from Cincy thanks to Omar Boraby. All previous Match Points tournament summaries from 2016 and 2017 can be found HERE.
Singles Champion
Garbiñe Muguruza beat Simona Halep, 6-1 6-0 in Sunday’s final to win her fifth title.
Doubles Champions
Chan Yung-Jan and Martina Hingis beat Hsieh Su-Wei and Monica Niculescu, 4-6 6-4 10-7 in Saturday’s final to win the 2017 Cincy doubles title.
Super Snaps
It’s been a real pleasure to share photos from Cincy by Omar Boraby. Photo round-ups are up on the blog and five albums are up on the Moo’s Tennis Blog Facebook page with three linked below for Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Memorable Match
It will be tough to top the drama of Ekaterina Makarova’s second round win over Angelique Kerber, 6-4 1-6 7-6 (11). I was so compelled by the match, I wrote a special post about it at the link below.
Best Points
From the Halep-Konta quarter-final, this was one of the highest quality points of the year.
From the Makarova-Kerber match, one of the most spectacular match points you are ever likely to see!
Best Shots
The end of the Muguruza-Keys third round match was very exciting and this forehand from Keys helped her to set up two break points at a pivotal stage of the third set.
Another one against Muguruza! The footwork from Svetlana Kuznetsova to save break point with this forehand winner was exceptional.
Super Sportsmanship
Two matches in two weeks. Nice to see this between Madison and CoCo.
LOL Moments
Simona Halep’s recollection of how she got to Cincy was hilarious! 😂
This still makes me laugh! 😂😂😂
Cracking Quotes
Liked this from Sloane.

I really enjoyed The Body Serve podcast this week and their episode from Cincy All-Access Hour with Muguruza and Konta.
