Fact… every match i’ve watched featuring Katerina Siniakova has been an experience that I won’t forget. I mean…

In the final match of the day on the Ann Jones Centre Court in Birmingham, Katerina Siniakova scored her first top 20 win with a victory over Andrea Petkovic, 4-6 6-1 7-6(4). After a long, long, longggg game serving at *3-2 up in the third set, Siniakova got broken. Siniakova, a slightly emotional gal, was not best pleased and there were tears.

In fact, Siniakova has been in tears in pretty much all the matches i’ve watched her play. Credit though to the Czech player who hung in serving at *4-5 and *5-6 with scoreboard pressure and then was rewarded for being the more positive player in the tiebreak. It’s a wonder how Siniakova keeps it together when she is so emotional on court. Am I a bad person for laughing? In all seriousness, I quite like Siniakova and she’s certainly gutsy, which is a good attribute to have. In the long run though, I can’t see how this attitude is going to help her. Siniakova is still relatively new to the tour so hopefully she will mature in the years to come.

I’m sad for the Petko fans who were in the crowd. Petko didn’t play a good match, but as ever, she battled hard and nearly came away with the win. Grass isn’t her best friend and she will get another chance in Eastbourne to get some wins before Wimbledon. Siniakova will play either Christina McHale or Misaki Doi in the third round of the Aegon Classic on Thursday.
