Wuhan will see a repeat of the 2014 Wimbledon final as Petra Kvitova takes on Eugenie Bouchard in Saturday’s final, which will begin at 8am UK time. In that famous match, Kvitova produced one of the best performances of the entire season to completely overwhelm Bouchard, 6-3 6-0. It was a tough summer for Genie, but Wuhan has seen her find some of her best form again. She was pushed to three sets by Mona Barthel in her first match, but hasn’t dropped a set in her last three matches. In the semi-finals, she played her best match since Wimbledon as she defeated Caroline Wozniacki, 6-2 6-3. By all accounts, Wozniacki was struggling with a hamstring injury in the second set, but Genie deserved all the credit for this win.
Kvitova defeated Elina Svitolina, 6-3 7-5 in the first of the semi-finals. Svitolina had break back points in the final game of the match, but Kvitova held firm to exact revenge on Svitolina, who had defeated her in Cincy earlier this year. The courts are fast and seem to suit both Petra and Genie’s games. This final will be a fascinating dynamic to see how Genie copes after their last performance. It’s very unlikely that Kvitova will be able to replicate that form, but in Wuhan, she has been serving well. Bouchard will bring plenty of confidence and self-belief into this final from her run in Wuhan, but this will be the ultimate mental test for her. Once Kvitova reaches the depths of a draw, she is pretty lethal. Her record in finals is excellent having won 13 of 17 finals on the tour including both Grand Slam finals she has competed in. Petra for the win, but in a closer match than at Wimbledon.
The winner of this match will qualify for Singapore but in truth, both will make it. The line-up for Singapore couldn’t be much better and it’s going to be a fantastic end to the season…
Prediction: Kvitova d. Bouchard in 2 sets (1 tight, 1 easy)
Semi-final Poll Results: 74% correctly predicted that Kvitova would beat Svitolina and 51% correctly predicted that Bouchard would beat Wozniacki.
the weather will be the deciding factor.and that depends when they play, which is at 3PM….a hot part of the day….

Agree with Brian, if am not mistaken, most of Genie’s matches were played in the evening. Most likely she’ll have to adapt to it. Am expecting a very tough match but Petra will come through in the end. Can’t wait for the match to begin!! #PetraForWuhanTitle #POJDPetra 🙂
