While all kinds of crazy were happening in the women’s draw, the men’s draw has seen very few upsets. There are a few exciting third round matches that were set for Sunday with Grigor Dimitrov to play the in-form, David Goffin and an all-French match-up between Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils. Here’s a pair of previews for Saturday’s ATP matches.
TFF DreamTeam Update: Wild Briar Village is still top of the league with woo in second place and #teamwoz in third place.
Poll Results: 32% correctly predicted that Thiem would beat Gulbis in yesterday’s poll.
1. Philipp Kohlschreiber v John Isner (ATP US Open, R3)
For the third consecutive year, Philipp Kohlschreiber and John Isner will meet in the third round of the US Open. In both 2012 and 2013, Isner brought in great form and great expectations, only to be taken down by Kohlschreiber on both occasions. Last year, Kohlschreiber won in four sets, 6-4 3-6 7-5 7-6(5). Isner has made a solid start to his 2014 US Open campaign with straight set wins over Marcos Giron and Jan-Lennard Struff. Kohlschreiber has also not dropped a set and only had to play one set in his second round match after Michael Llodra retired. Although Kohlschreiber has prevailed in their US Open clashes, Isner won their last match down in Auckland. Kohlschreiber is a dangerous opponent when he’s confident, but his season has been distinctly average. I like Isner’s chances of preventing the hat-trick, but it won’t be an easy match.
Prediction: Isner d. Kohlschreiber in 5 sets
2. Tommy Robredo v Nick Kyrgios (ATP US Open, R3)
In one of the few sections of the draw I managed to call correctly, Nick Kyrgios and Tommy Robredo will meet in the third round. I’m rather stumped this has got the night session on Ashe but then again, the schedulers have bamboozled everyone with their choices this week. Kyrgios has quietly crept into the third round with excellent wins over Mikhail Youzhny and Andreas Seppi. Many had circled Vasek Pospisil as a potential upset for Robredo, but the Spaniard never had to face him. Instead Robredo had to come from two sets down to defeat Simone Bollelli. Kyrgios’s potential is there for all to see, but Robredo is a really tough competitor and providing he has enough left in the tank, would be my tip to the fourth round.
Prediction: Robredo d. Kyrgios in 4 sets

They get primetime because sponsors wanted to show Novack, and Serena matches on CBS in the day time. These two players brings in the most viewers. Bouchard and Tommy wouldn’t be showed on television in the USA.
