Alexander Zverev continued his fantastic recent form as he won his second ATP main draw match in Hamburg with a stunning 7-5 7-5 victory over the number five seed, Mikhail Youzhny.  The 17-year-old will play Santiago Giraldo in the third round.  It’s very refreshing to see new blood coming through on the ATP tour and although it is early days to start jumping on bandwagons, Zverev is a real talent.  There’s an excellent Twitter fan account for Zverev (@FanZverev) if you are interested in tracking his matches and progress in the future.  In Bastad, ALL eight seeds have been knocked out and the draw is looking a little messy.  If Kaia Kanepi has enough in the tank, she’s my tip to go all the way.

1. Philipp Kohlschreiber v Gilles Simon (ATP Hamburg, R3)

After a series of upsets in Hamburg, I was heading for a clean slate of incorrect predictions! Things turned slightly in my favour towards the end of the day and this was one of the few third round matches I correctly predicted.  In the late night match on Thursday, Philipp Kohlschreiber will take on Gilles Simon.  Kohlschreiber won his first match of the week against Gastao Elias, 7-5 6-1.  Elias served for the first set at 5-4, but Kohlschreiber reeled off nine of the next ten games to move into the third round.  Simon hasn’t played any tennis so far this week to reach the last 16.  He benefited from a walkover by Martin Klizan in the second round.  Kohlschreiber and Simon have played each other on five occasions with Simon winning their last four matches.  The pair haven’t played though since 2010.  Simon hasn’t played any competitive tennis since Wimbledon and Kohlschreiber will have the lay of the land and home support…
