Farewell, Wimbledon 2014

The 2014 Wimbledon Championships concluded with an awesome men’s final and arguably the match of the year as Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer, 6-7(7) 6-4 7-6(4) 5-7 6-4 to win his second Wimbledon title.  I don’t have a great deal to add to it.  It was THE BEST.  Djokovic served for the match in the fourth set and had a match point, which Roger saved with an ace (and the help of hawkeye).  Novak has had some crushing losses at the Slams and this would have taken the biscuit if he had lost.  I would have been seriously worried for him going forward if Roger had won.  However Djokovic showed a huge amount of courage to win this in five sets.  This win should go a long way to rejuvunate Djokovic’s confidence and he will return to the top of the rankings come tomorrow.  An amazing match.  The perfect way to finish Wimbledon.

I’m always ridiculously sad when Wimbledon ends as it marks the end of my favourite stretch of the tennis calendar and I won’t be watching any live tennis for another 50 weeks.  Furthermore, it’s the end of my holiday, back to work and back to reality!  I hope you’ve all enjoyed Moo’s Tennis Blog during this grass court season.  I’ve tried my best to get as much material out over the past four weeks! I’ll be taking a break from the blog for a week, perhaps two, but I will definitely be back in time for Stanford.  Thanks for all your comments during Wimbledon, positive and negative. During the two weeks of Wimbledon, I have had over 50,000 page hits on Moo’s Tennis Blog.  It means the world to me that people care about what I have to say.  To be able to engage with other tennis nuts on here and Twitter has been awesome and I hope any new readers during Wimbledon will continue to follow Moo’s Tennis Blog.  I don’t just post during Wimbledon, I am here all year 🙂

TFF DreamTeam Final Standings: Woo won the Moo’s Tennis Blog league with julygrass in 2nd place and #teamwoz in 3rd place.

Fantasy Wimbledon Final Standings: *CORRECTION* Congrats to Jared Pine, who won by over 100 points and led pretty much the whole way through.  I didn’t realise that Fantasy Wimbledon hadn’t done it’s final updating when I checked so little me actually came in 2nd place and Cosima_N was in 3rd place.  The fantasy league was a real success and I hope they do it again next year.  Thanks to everyone for joining the Moo’s Tennis Blog league.

Men’s Final Poll Results: After 253 votes (a record!), just 30% of people correctly predicted that Djokovic would beat Federer in the men’s final.
