| Heather Watson |
Today was a historic day for British tennis as Heather Watson won the title in Osaka to become the first British woman to win a WTA title since 1988. Watson beat Chang Kai-Chen in a dramatic final that lasted 3 hours and 11 minutes. Both players had match points before Watson eventually wrapped the victory having saved four of them, 7-5 5-7 7-6. British tennis has really begun to flourish this year and its so great to have both Watson and Robson starting to make their move in the rankings. Watson will now break the top 50 and I am sure that Robson will follow soon.
Andy Murray was also involved in a dramatic final, but came out the loser as he wasted five match points in an epic thriller to Novak Djokovic, 5-7 7-6 6-3. The match included some dramatic racquet smashes from both players although Djokovic won the award for the most impressive. It still doesn’t beat my all time favourite of Vera Zvonareva‘s meltdown in Charleston several years ago… Classic.
