WTA Taipei Final Poll for Sunday
WTA Taipei SF Prediction for Saturday
Day 5 Scores – 1/1
Svitolina d. Minella in 2 sets – Huge match for Minella but as I said yesterday and with even more feeling on this one, I think a solid display for Svitolina sweeps up in this match-up. It may not always be fun to watch but Svitolina can be so tough to break down and it’s often enough.
WTA Taipei QF Predictions for Friday
Day 4 Scores – 2/3
*Wrote Stosur/Peng the wrong way around, been a long week!*
Peng d. Stosur in 2 sets – I had a feeling about Peng pre-tournament so sticking with it. Slightly concerned about the 6-0 head-to-head record in Stosur’s favour but the Aussie, while having a good week, is still a little unconvincing. Stosur is a match-up player, but it’s been nearly four years since they last played. I’m giving a rejuvenated Peng the edge.
Svitolina d. Jabeur in 2 sets – Jabeur has had a great week and possesses a big game but I think it’s the type that Svitolina can negate with a solid display.
Zhu d. Minella in 3 sets – Not much insight on this one, Minella’s nerves make me nervous a lot of the time so gone for Zhu.
WTA Taipei R2 Predictions for Wednesday
Day 3 Scores – 1/3
Rogers d. Jabeur in 3 sets – A first meeting between the pair. I like the way that Rogers has been playing so far this year and she looked confident from what I saw of her first round match.
Doi d. Ozaki in 2 sets – Doi’s win over Hibino in the first round was her first win of 2017 in Brisbane. In Ozaki, she’ll get her second Japanese player in a row. Doi leads the head-to-head, 2-0 with two straight set wins and I think the first round win will have settled any nerves.
Garcia d. Minella in 2 sets – A good start for Garcia and her draw looks quite open on paper with Jankovic going out. I’d fancy Garcia to have too much firepower for Minella on this pretty fast court.
WTA Taipei R1 Predictions for Tuesday
Day 2 Scores – 6/7
Jankovic d. Nara in 2 sets – Jankovic had a very positive Australian Open and always seems to play well in Asia. To be honest, I don’t see what Nara can do in this match-up to hurt Jankovic unless the Serb has an off-day.
Svitolina d. Rodina in 2 sets – Svitolina for the win.
Stosur d. Kovinic in 2 sets – Stosur has lost her last nine (!) matches on tour but i’ve just got a feeling she might win this one. The head-to-head has been favourable for Stosur with straight set wins at Wimbledon and Bad Gastein in 2015. She’s a match-up kind of player so I think this is noteworthy.
Garcia d. Erakovic in 2 sets – A surprising stat, Erakovic has won four of their five previous matches. Their last match was over two years ago and I wouldn’t take too much notice on the H2H considering how their careers have panned out in the last few years. I’m expecting/hoping to see some improvements from Garcia in singles action in 2017.
Jakupovic d. Schiavone in 2 sets – Fingers crossed for Fran to do well but she has been struggling so far this year. The 25-year-old, Jakupovic is just a few places off her career best ranking of 153.
Hradecka d. Kozlova in 3 sets – A toss-up, still surprises me that Hradecka hasn’t made more of an impact in singles considering how huge her game is.
Peng d. Zheng in 2 sets – I have a feeling that Shuai could do well in this tournament. She’s coming from a confidence-boosting finals appearance in doubles and she notched up a big win over Daria Kasatkina in singles. Saisai has lost nine of her last ten matches on tour.
WTA Taipei R1 Predictions for Monday
Day 1 scores – 5/6
Doi d. Hibino in 3 sets – I was all excited for Doi after she had a great win over Makarova in Brisbane but she’s lost her last three matches since! To be honest, this is a match that i’d expect Doi to win with her superior groundstrokes, but you never quite know what to expect. There is yet to be a reliability about her performances on tour. Hibino pulled out of her last match at the Australian Open with what I think was a back injury.
Rogers d. Lee in 2 sets – Against the world number 256, this should be a routine opener for Rogers.
Sevastova d. Kato in 2 sets – Sevastova for the win, was slightly surprised to see her match her seeding in Melbourne by reaching the third round after a rocky start to the year.
Siniakova d. Voskoboeva in 2 sets – A first meeting, Siniakova has the slightly more contained game.
Cirstea d. Ozaki in 3 sets – A bit on the fence with this match-up despite Cirstea’s run at the Australian Open. I think Ozaki is the type of player that can benefit from a wayward performance by a big hitter. Still would give Cirstea the benefit of the doubt.
Cepelova d. Minella in 3 sets – The head-to-head is 1-1 but they haven’t played for over four years. I’d expect Cepelova to have too much game for Minella but her start to 2017 has been unconvincing.
Jabeur d. Gibbs in 3 sets – A toss-up, always liked Jabeur’s game. Jabeur has won seven matches in qualifying in 2017.
