WTA Rome R2 Predictions for Wednesday

Konta d. Vinci in 2 sets – I was surprised by how straightforward Konta’s victory over Larsson on Tuesday was. Vinci has a dire record in Rome so I like Konta in this match… as i’ve said before, I can’t call Roberta this year!

Kvitova d. Keys in 2 sets – Preview HERE

Muguruza d. Makarova in 3 sets – An interesting match, a big one i’d say for Muguruza. She’s needs some good performances before the French Open. Three of their four matches have gone the distance and I think Makarova has the game to live with the Spaniard’s heavy groundstrokes. Muguruza just…

Halep d. Gavrilova in 2 sets – A tough turnaround for Simona and against a feisty opponent. I’m not too sure with this one.

Azarenka d. Begu in 3 sets – Begu showed in Madrid that she is highly capable and won a set off Vika last year in Rome.

Kerber d. Bouchard in 3 sets – Bouchard has won their last two matches handily, but i’m not sure she’s playing at a high enough level to trouble a much more focused Kerber. Could be a good one.

Babos d. V.Williams in 2 sets – Babos is having a great year and this will be an interesting one. I really don’t fancy Venus on clay so i’m going for Timea.

Strycova d. Watson in 3 sets – A fun one, could see it going either way.

Kuznetsova d. Stosur in 3 sets – Preview HERE

Puig d. Ostapenko in 3 sets – On the fence

Bacsinszky d. Tsurenko in 2 sets – Timea’s looking strong right now.

Kasatkina d. Duque-Mariño in 2 sets – Fancy two tight sets, MDM is a good clay courter.

WTA Rome R2 Predictions for Tuesday

S.Williams d. Friedsam in 2 sets – Friedsam actually won a set when they played at the French Open last year. Will be surprised if Serena starts sharp, may take some time for her to get into the match. I could see Friedsam getting a set but gone in the end for two sets.

Suárez Navarro d. Pereira in 2 sets – Should be a comfortable win for CSN if she’s fully recovered having been ill in Madrid.

WTA Rome R1 Predictions for Tuesday

Bouchard d. Jankovic in 2 sets – Preview HERE

Gavrilova d. Lisicki in 3 sets – Lisicki has just parted ways with Kas after what has been a disappointing year so far. Gavrilova is defending semi-finals points but should be a little more relaxed having reached the quarter-finals in Madrid.

Kuznetsova d. Garcia in 3 sets – Could go either way… Garcia though had a tough loss in Madrid from 6-0 3-0 up on Cibulkova and also lost in a third set tiebreak to Kuznetsova in Miami. Doubles has been good though!

Stosur d. Riske in 2 sets – Like Sam in this match-up.

Mladenovic d. Ostapenko in 2 sets – This match-up cracks me up because the last time they played, Mladenovic tweeted about Ostapenko’s handshake at Wimbledon! She’s been in poor form but i’m actually favouring Mlads in this one. LIke CarGar, would expect doubles success to potentially rub off on singles.

Konta d. Larsson in 3 sets – A little unsure of Konta on clay, this will a firm test against a competent clay courter like Larsson.

McHale d. Giovine in 2 sets – A very favourable draw for McHale against the world number 423.

Bacsinszky d. Wickmayer in 2 sets – Timea has won their last three matches and looks super confident right now. A few days off after Madrid should have helped after a gruelling recent schedule.

Babos d. Bertens in 3 sets – On the fence, I like Bertens and had her to win Rabat but leaning towards Babos in a tight three setter.

Goerges d. Tsurenko in 2 sets – A good draw for Julia… I think!

Niculescu d. Duque-Marino in 3 sets – I’m expecting 7-6 (68) in the third set!

WTA Rome R1 Predictions for Monday

Ivanovic d. Pavlyuchenkova in 3 sets – Ivanovic owns this H2H, 7-1 with Pavs’s only win coming via retirement. However, i’m still concerned for Ivanovic who I thought was all over the place in her last match against Chirico in Madrid. I’ll give Ana the benefit of the doubt, plus she’s done well in Rome in before.

Errani d. Watson in 2 sets – Errani will be seeking her first singles win since Charleston… her year’s been very up and down but she’s always done well in Rome and conditions are favourable for her.

Petkovic d. Keys in 3 sets – Preview HERE

Vandeweghe d. V.Williams in 2 sets – Venus has been struggling with a leg injury all year and to be honest, i’m surprised that she continues to persist with the clay. Vandeweghe’s no more comfortable on it but feel like this match is CoCo’s for the taking.

Strycova d. Knapp in 2 sets – Knapp won her first match of the year last week in Madrid against Gasparyan. I’d expect Strycova to get the win but just a feeling it could be a struggle as Knapp is decent on clay.

Friedsam d. Schmiedlova in 2 sets – I really hope AKS can snap out of her recent funk but I don’t really see a way out right now. Her performance vs. Muguruza in Madrid was much better and she’s now with a new coach (via WTA Insider) but i’d still go for Friedsam.

Kasatkina d. Pliskova in 3 sets – Preview HERE

Svitolina d. Puig in 3 sets – On the fence, Puig’s got a shot at the upset IMO

Doi d. Cornet in 3 sets – Doi has only won matches at two tournaments this year although she reached the final in both! Cornet has not got going since coming from a back injury. A good chance for Doi to seal a lucrative win…

Begu d. Gasparyan in 3 sets – Gasparyan’s form has slipped into the abyss, losing her last five matches. Begu played some great tennis in Madrid but is never consistent. Leaning towards Begu though…

Pereira d. Beck in 2 sets – This seems to be a good match-up for Pereira having a 3-1 H2H record, will take a big mental effort form Beck to overturn a recent loss in Rabat.

Makarova-Kovinic – I put Makarova in my draw, but i’m starting to sway towards Kovinic. I really can’t make my mind up with this one!
