WTA Montreal Final Prediction for Sunday
Day 7 Predictions – 1/1
Ohhh this is tough, i’m close to just sitting on the fence but…
Halep d. Keys in 3 sets – Preview HERE
WTA Montreal SF Predictions for Saturday
Day 6 Predictions – 2/2
Keys d. Kucova in 3 sets – Kucova seems to be taking this big hitters out one by one! I’d take Keys but i’m certainly wary of the threat that Kucova poses and she’s riding this wave eight now so anything is possible.
Halep d. Kerber in 3 sets – Preview HERE
WTA Montreal QF Predictions for Friday
Day 5 Predictions – 2/4
*My pre-tournament finalists, Halep and Keys, are hanging in there!*
Konta d. Kucova in 2 sets – The draw has opened up for Konta but kudos to her for taking advantage of it. Kucova is having a spectacular run and Konta’s played a lot of tennis. Still, i’d fancy Konta to keep the winning streak going.
Keys d. Pavlyuchenkova in 2 sets – On the fence with this one, i’ve gone for two sets as I think it is key whoever wins the first. Pavs is playing great but I think Keys will be more secure on serve.
Halep d. Kuznetsova in 3 sets – Preview HERE
Kasatkina d. Kerber in 3 sets – Preview HERE
WTA Montreal R3 Predictions for Thursday
Day 4 Predictions – 4/8
*I did the Petra jinx :-S*
*Eeek a messy day, Svits was so close yet so far*
Konta d. Lepchenko in 3 sets – This one depends on how well Konta recovers from all the matches she has played in Stanford and Montreal. She’s done super to win two matches already and the draw is there for her to go deeper. Expect this could be a tight tussle.
Bouchard d. Kucova in 2 sets – Super weeks for both Bouchard and Kucova. Depends if Genie can replicate but a great opportunity to go deep in this draw.
Radwanska d. Pavlyuchenkova in 3 sets – Interesting match, the struggle is often for Pavs to get to these types of matches. When she gets there, she is always dangerous! Radwanska wasn’t that convincing against Niculescu but Pavs would need to play a blinder. Radwanska leads the head-to-head, 4-2 but Pavs won their last match in Eastbourne in a third set tiebreak. I remember watching that one live, it was a great match!
Keys d. V.Williams in 2 sets – Even with Venus’s laboured serve, I think i’d take Keys in this one. The younger American was up and down against Brengle but she’s developing a knack for winning matches when not playing at her best which is a great attribute to have. Venus did that to a degree against Strycova, who had an absolute shocker!
Kvitova d. Kuznetsova in 3 sets – Tough one to call! The head-to-head is in favour of Kvitova and she’s done well in Montreal before. She has benefitted that both previous matches took place in the evening while this one will be during the afternoon. Going for Petra, hope I haven’t just pulled the jinx!
Halep d. Pliskova in 2 sets – Pliskova finally won her first match against Halep in Fed Cup action earlier this year but on the main tour, Halep has dominated this match-up with three straight set wins. Halep’s in decent form and I think she takes this in two tightish sets.
Kasatkina d. Vinci in 3 sets – Preview HERE
Svitolina d. Kerber in 3 sets – A lot depends on Kerber’s injury and whether she believes she can go deep in this tournament. Sticking with Svitolina on this occasion…
WTA Montreal R2 Predictions for Wednesday
Day 3 Predictions – 8/13
*Went for the upsets but they didn’t happen!*
Radwanska d. Niculescu in 2 sets – Niculescu did have that win over Radwanska in Nottingham last year but since then, Radwanska has won their last two matches pretty convincingly. This should be a fun one, their last match produced some awesome hot shots!
Strycova d. V.Williams in 3 sets – Preview HERE
Cibulkova d. Bouchard in 3 sets – A Wimbledon rematch! Cibulkova was in superb form back at SW19 and came through her first round match in Montreal comfortably. Bouchard had a big win over Safarova but couldn’t attend her press conferences after doubles due to a stomach issue. Leaning towards Cibulkova…
Lucic-Baroni d. Kerber in 2 sets or ret. – I’m not convinced about Kerber’s health with the elbow injury so I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t get through this match. MLB has been in good form too…
Vinci d. Giorgi in 3 sets – Giorgi has been playing much better since Wimbledon. Vinci’s form has been disappointing in the past few months but her best results this year have been on hard courts. Just a feeling that Vinci will come through this one.
Svitolina d. Abanda in 2 sets – Abanda showed her potential in a first WTA win over Saisai Zheng on Tuesday. It would be a surprise if Abanda can upset Svitolina who is normally very steady.
Keys d. Brengle in 2 sets – Keys leads the head-to-head, 3-0 and has never dropped a set to Brengle. Makarova had all kinds of problems hitting through Brengle but I have more faith in Keys being able to win this one, particularly with the H2H. Keys looked very secure against Vesnina in the first round.
Petkovic d. Kvitova in 3 sets – Sorry Petra (!) but I quite like Petko in this match-up. The pair are tied at 4-4 in their head-to-head. Petra was good in the first round but it’s backing up decent performances that has been a struggle this year.
Suárez Navarro d. Kucova in 2 sets – Kucova has already beaten the likes of McHale and Wickmayer in Montreal so definitely not to be written off just yet. I think Carla will get the job done in the end.
Pliskova d. Errani in 2 sets – Depends on Pliskova’s level but I think she has enough weaponry to power past Errani, who didn’t look entirely convincing in her first round win over Wozniak.
Konta d. King in 2 sets – On paper, it’s a great draw for Konta with Serena and then Garbiñe both exiting her section! King is having somewhat of a resurgence so wouldn’t be surprised to see it go three.
Pavlyuchenkova d. McHale in 3 sets – On the fence with this one, Pavs should be pretty settled after beating Poots from match point down. McHale had a shocking loss in the second round of qualifying but got another chance as lucky loser and took advantage of it with Zhang retiring mid-match yesterday. Pavs has won their two previous matches, both in three sets.
Kasatkina d. Stosur in 3 sets – Stosur is a match-up player so i’m fascinated to see how she handles Kasatkina’s game in this first time match-up. I’d say a good opportunity for Daria.
Kuznetsova d. Kudryavtseva in 2 sets – A great week so far for Kudryavtseva with three quality wins over Osaka, Lepchenko and Mladenovic. Kuznetsova comes in cold so will be vulnerable, fancy her to still come through. Don’t be surprised if this goes the distance!
WTA Montreal R2 Predictions for Tuesday
Day 2 Predictions – 1/1
Muguruza d. Broady in 2 sets – I actually had Puig over Muguruza in my Draw Challenge. I’m not really sure why but I just had a feeling Muguruza might struggle in Montreal! I don’t see Broady causing an upset in this one but she’s had an excellent last two weeks.
Halep d. Gavrilova in 2 sets – Pondered over two and three sets… Preview HERE
WTA Montreal R1 Predictions for Tuesday
Day 2 Predictions – 9/13
Errani d. Wozniak in 2 sets – Wozniak actually won their only previous completed encounter all the way back in 2009. While Errani’s recent form has been disappointing, i’m not sure Wozniak has played enough tennis of late to be a contender in this match.
Petkovic d. Cornet in 3 sets – A tough one, Cornet has a good record against Petkovic having won four of their five previous encounters. Their last two matches have both gone the distance. I’m going with Petko on this one as Cornet’s game showed quite a few flaws in Stanford, mostly on serve.
Keys d. Vesnina in 2 sets – Preview HERE
Konta d. Rogers in 2 sets – A tight turnaround for Konta but i’d fancy her to win a couple of matches in Montreal. The pair haven’t played since 2012 with their head-to-head split at 1-1.
S.Zheng d. Abanda in 3 sets – Abanda is still seeking her first WTA main draw win although she has competed well in Fed Cup action in the past few years. She’ll have the crowd, but Zheng is pretty competent these days.
Cibulkova d. Duque-Mariño in 2 sets – Don’t anticipate too many problems for Cibulkova although MDM does have a tricky game.
Pavlyuchenkova d. Putintseva in 3 sets – On the fence with this one, Pavs won in straights at Wimby but the surface will probably make this a more even contest. Poots has played her way into form after DC while Pavs is playing for the first time since Wimby. Hmm….
Mladenovic d. Kudryavtseva in 2 sets – Mladenovic won their only previous encounter in Strasbourg on clay earlier this year. I’d say Mlads in straights without too much bother but I still can’t get my head around her first round exit at Wimby to Sasnovich!
Babos d. King in 3 sets – King has had a super few weeks, but i’d go for Babos who has been consistently picking up wins at these types of tournaments.
McHale d. Zhang in 2 sets – McHale had a shocking loss to Kucova in the second round of qualifying for Montreal but got in as a lucky loser. Something tells me she might go on and win this one!
Pliskova d. Bondarenko in 3 sets – Tough match, Bondarenko’s had a great year.
Kasatkina d. Doi in 3 sets – Doi has weapons but Kasatkina is the smarter and steadier player IMO
Niculescu d. Ostapenko in 2 sets – Preview HERE
Wickmayer d. Kucova in 2 sets – Like Wicky for this one although Kucova did have a great win over McHale in qualifying.
WTA Montreal R1 Predictions for Monday
Day 1 Predictions – 5/9
*Oof a bit of a rough day, surprised about Puig who I had to beat Muguruza!*
Strycova d. Garcia in 2 sets – Going with the head-to-head with this one as Strycova has won their last four encounters including two matches this year. Garcia has shown some very positive signs at the International tournaments but she will most likely need to play a blinder here. Strycova hasn’t lost her first match at a tournament since St. Petersburg in early February.
Stosur d. Watson in 3 sets – Contemplated an upset with this one but edging towards Stosur. The Aussie wasn’t that convincing in Washington where she lost in the quarters to Pegula.
Kvitova d. Linette in 2 sets – Not really sure what to expect from Kvitova although that’s the case for most players in their first tournament since Wimby. Kvitova loves Montreal and a night match should help her.
Makarova d. Brengle in 2 sets – Surprise H2H alert, Brengle has won their last two matches and both in straight sets! Makarova looked decent on the grass so i’d fancy her to bag a first win over Brengle.
Svitolina d. Brady in 2 sets – I was impressed with what I saw of Brady in her match against Cornet in Stanford. She backed up that encouraging display with two wins in qualifying to reach the main draw. Svitolina has been quiet of late, once again not faring too well on the grass. However, i’d back Svitolina in this one and actually with this draw, to have chances to go very deep.
Stephens d. Giorgi in 3 sets – Hmmm this will be interesting! Stephens suffered a pretty shocking loss last week in Washington but she does have off days like this so I wouldn’t read too much into it in terms of going forward. Giorgi’s results have picked up a tad, picking up two 6-3 6-1 wins in qualifying. Form book says Giorgi but this is the WTA so expect the unexpected!
Puig d. Broady in 2 sets – Broady’s form has improved after a miserable grass court season while Puig lost out in her second round match to Davis in Washington. Puig dropped just two games against Broady last month in Eastbourne…
Beck d. Gavrilova in 3 sets – 50-50 match, a toss up! I do like Gavrilova, but I do often underestimate Beck!
Lucic-Baroni d. Hibino in 2 sets – Lucic-Baroni’s form has a tendency to waver but there have been some excellent results over the past few months. Hibino has had a quiet year so i’m leaning towards MLB.

I’m expecting this to be an absolute mess haha!
*Wooop, very rare to get a final correct!*
