WTA Linz 2016 Predictions

Linz Predictions – 19 / 27

*Ohhhh I forgot to post a final prediction!*

WTA Linz Final Poll for Sunday

WTA Linz SF Predictions for Saturday

Day 6 – 1/1

Cibulkova d. Suárez Navarro in 2 sets – Cibulkova leads the H2H, 3-2 but Suárez Navarro has won their last two matches. Still, i’d take Cibulkova who I think has been playing at a higher level this week.

Keys d. Golubic in 3 sets – This could be an interesting one… Golubic has plenty of variety to upset Keys’s rhythm but the American has been so reliable of late at getting the wins.

WTA Linz SF Polls for Saturday

WTA Linz QF Predictions for Friday

Day 5 – 2/3

Allertova d. Suárez Navarro in 3 sets – Preview HERE

Keys d. Dodin in 3 sets – Never has helmets-at-the-ready been more relevant than for this one! I’d guess Keys but Dodin’s been playing some super stuff of late. Both big games, i’d fancy a three setter but then Keys has been clinical so far this week and is a woman on a mission to get to Singapore!

Cibulkova d. Pavlyuchenkova in 3 sets – Gone back and forth with this one and don’t have a strong opinion in favour of one player. Cibulkova’s won three of their last four and from watching their match in Madrid, which Cibulkova won, 2-6 6-3 7-5, felt like Domi had a mental edge.

Muguruza d. Golubic in 2 sets – Niculescu was a good match-up for Muguruza, this will be trickier.

WTA Linz R2 Predictions for Thursday

Day 4 – 4/5

Goerges d. Golubic in 3 sets – Surprised this match got CC over Pavs-Flipkens but hey ho… Golubic has been a revelation this year, but I do like Goerges indoors even if she can be in and out.

Keys d. Doi in 3 sets – Big hitting again in this one with a battle of the forehands. Doi won their first match-up but Keys has won the last three handily in straights. Imagine that Doi could make this more interesting than the last three but still have faith in Keys in getting the win and stepping closer to securing her place in Singapore.

Cibulkova d. Beck in 3 sets – Fun stat… Cibulkova and Beck’s only previous match was in Linz back in 2013 where Cibulkova came from a set down to win in three. Beck has a very good record indoors and I wouldn’t be surprised if she nicked a set. A highly motivated Cibulkova for the win.

Muguruza d. Niculescu in 2 sets – I’m fascinated by this match-up haha! Niculescu could drive Muguruza crazy with her slices and spins but the Spaniard could take control if she can take charge at the net. Easier said than done…

Pavlyuchenkova d. Flipkens in 2 sets – Their last match was in the semi-finals of Linz and the only three setter of their trio of matches. Pavs has won all three and as the indoor queen, predict she will get through in two tight.

WTA Linz R2 Predictions for Wednesday

Day 3 – 3/3

Suárez Navarro d. Sorribes Tormo in 2 sets – A great week for Sorribes Tormo but I think Suárez Navarro’s quality will shine through in this all Spanish clash.

Allertova d. Kontaveit in 3 sets – A first time match up and pretty much a coin toss. Big serves, big games and big first round wins against quality opposition. Both have had similar years in terms of injuries and shown just glimpses of what they are capable of. I’d say the winner is more than capable of going deeper in the draw. I’ve gone Allertova but with very little confidence. It’s really too close to call.

Dodin d. Cirstea in 3 sets – Dodin’s picked up some confidence on the ITF tour and also won indoors for her first WTA title in Quebec City last month. In another first time meeting, i’d take an in-form Dodin to edge this.

WTA Linz R1 Predictions for Wednesday

Day 3 – 2/3

Keys d. Giorgi in 3 sets – You know the drill, get those helmets at the ready! A huge hitting match-up awaits and it should be fun to see Keys indoors. I’d guess a lopsided affair but I think Keys will tough it out. She’s been winning so many matches lately and will have motivation fighting through fatigue as the prospect of Singapore looms.

Bencic d. Cibulkova in 3 sets – Phwoo another tough one. Cibulkova looks to be in a tough position and needs to go deep this week in Linz to actually earn points to her Race ranking. Bencic just can’t seem to catch a break right now but at least the injury she suffered in Wuhan hasn’t turned out to be serious. A first time meeting and expecting it to be very close. I’ll go for things to turn BB’s way…

Muguruza d. Buyukakcay in 2 sets – Even error-strewn, I think Muguruza’s game on this surface will eventually be too much for Buyukakcay to handle.

Flipkens d. Minella in 2 sets – Their last meeting was 12 (!) years ago with Flipkens winning in Napoli. Flipkens reached the semi-finals last year and i’d fancy her to start strong in Linz again.

WTA Linz R1 Predictions for Tuesday

Day 2 – 5/8

Kasatkina d. Allertova in 3 sets – A tricky opener for Kasatkina… I really like Allertova but she’s had an injury ravaged year. Allertova reached the semi-finals of Tashkent a few weeks ago and made quarter-finals in Linz last year so expecting a very close match.

Suárez Navarro d. Barthel in 2 sets – Been another really tough year for Barthel who has never found her groove after being sidelined by a mystery illness for much of the first half of 2016. Barthel, down at #130 in the rankings, will be seeking just her sixth main draw win on the tour. The German player has always performed well indoors in these types of tournaments but with little form, the super consistent Suárez Navarro will be the heavy favourite.

Goerges d. Haas in 2 sets – As a former finalist, Goerges has history in Linz. She’ll be relieved not to be facing Camila Giorgi though who has knocked her out in the first round for the past two years!

Kontaveit d. Bouchard in 3 sets – Hmmm on the fence with this one. Bouchard didn’t play the Asian Swing and Kontaveit’s a big hitter. I don’t often get Genie matches right so yeah…!

Beck d. Pironkova in 2 sets – Both players will be seeking their first wins on tour since the US Open. Beck has won three of their four previous matches. Instinct with Beck.

Pliskova d. Dodin in 3 sets – Kr. Pliskova’s got a nice winning streak going on right now but Dodin has been in equally impressive form, also winning a WTA title in Quebec City. This should be a fun one…

Niculescu d. Brengle in 2 sets – Niculescu is 0-4 in Linz, while Brengle has a rather impressive 7-2 W-L record. However, recent form hasn’t been great for Brengle who last won a completed match in July. Furthermore, Brengle has lost eight of her last ten matches on tour. Niculescu won their only previous match all the way back in 2011 on grass and I think she’s got a good shot here for a first ever win in Linz.

Ostapenko d. Sorribes Tormo in 3 sets – This could be one of those classic matches where Ostapenko crashes out in a wave of unforced errors. I thought there were positive signs in her match against Putintseva in Beijing but it all went pearshaped at the end. Sorribes Tormo is a grinder and best on clay but I don’t think (based on last year) that the courts are super fast in Linz. Changed my mind on this one a few times but going for Ostapenko.

WTA Linz R1 Predictions for Monday

Day 1 – 2/4

Siegemund d. Golubic in 3 sets – Siegemund leads the head-to-head, 2-0 although both matches were in 2013. I’m intrigued to see the court speed in Linz; if I remember correctly last year it was slower. Siegemund did well in indoors in Stuttgart (even though that was clay) and I think she’ll take this one.

Bertens d. Cirstea in 3 sets – Nice to see Bertens back after she pulled out of the Asian Swing due to fatigue. Bertens has lost her last six matches on tour since reaching the final all the way back in Gstaad. Cirstea leads the H2H, 2-0 but both matches went the distance and the most recent of those matches was over two years ago. Just a feeling (oh no!) that Kiki will get the win in this one.

Pavlyuchenkova d. Sevastova in 2 sets – Defending champion and general indoor queen, Pavlyuchenkova is always one to keep an eye out for in these tournaments. While they haven’t played for a while, Pavs has won all three previous encounters. Sevastova’s struggled in recent matches, perhaps with the shoulder injury that forced her to retire to Putintseva in Wuhan.

Doi d. Larsson in 3 sets – Three setter in my opinion and instinct going for Doi… she won indoors in Luxembourg last year which is probably the reason i’m going for Doi!
