Predictions for Hong Kong – 21/29
WTA Hong Kong Final Prediction for Sunday
Day 7 – 1/1
Wozniacki d. Mladenovic in 2 sets – Impressed with Mladenovic this week, wouldn’t rule out a winning performance, but Wozniacki has been super solid this week.

WTA Hong Kong SF Predictions for Saturday
Day 6 – 1/2
Gavrilova d. Mladenovic in 3 sets – Some good wins this week for Mladenovic which I will hope will go some way to building her confidence a little which I feel has taken a battering this year in singles. Gavrilova will be on a high and I think she’ll take this, throwing in enough variety to disrupt Mladenovic’s rhythm.
Wozniacki d. Jankovic in 2 sets – Ahhh it’s been a while since these two have met! The pair have a colourful head-to-head and are currently tied at 5-5. I wouldn’t say Wozniacki has played her best tennis this week but I like the fact she’s been rolling through the matches, something she wasn’t doing much at the start of the year. I think Caro will be too strong.

WTA Hong Kong QF Predictions for Friday
Day 5 – 3/4
Kerber d. Gavrilova in 3 sets – I nearly went for Gavrilova in this one but wimped out. I think Dasha has a real shot in this one despite the 0-5 record.
*Should have gone with my instinct on Dasha-Angie……….*
Wozniacki d. Wang in 2 sets – It’s been a solid week for Caro so far and this feels like another match-up that she’ll come through. Wang does have a win over Wozniacki back in 2013 in Kuala Lumpur but well below-par last year in Beijing, Wozniacki still won, 7-5 6-0.
Mladenovic d. Mattek-Sands in 3 sets – Chuffed to see Beth having a good week in singles – in fact it’s her first quarter-final of the year. This could be a real topsy-turvy affair and i’m on the fence somewhat as both have the tendency to go for a wander.
Jankovic d. Cornet in 3 sets – Oh please be an epic dramafest!
WTA Hong Kong R2 Predictions for Thursday
Day 4 – 2/6
Konta d. Wang in 2 sets – Back in the first week of 2016, this was Konta’s first match of the year with Wang prevailing in three sets in Shenzhen. Wang’s a decent player and may get a shot if Konta’s having an off day which is possible considering how much tennis she has played in the last few weeks. Sticking with Konta though…
Wozniacki d. Watson in 2 sets – Like the match above, the pair have played once before and it’s the lower ranked player with the win. Watson won earlier this year in Monterrey, 7-5 6-4. I’d take Wozniacki but I was a little concerned with the wobble at serving out the match against Zheng.
Kerber d. Chirico in 3 sets – I actually had Kerber out in my Draw Challenge at this stage haha! I wasn’t sure about the leg injury and i’m still not entirely convinced but it would still be a big surprise to see her go out in round two. Chirico has good and bad days, and has been dismantled by higher ranked opposition on occasion. I’ll be very intrigued by how this one unfolds…
V.Williams d. Cornet in 2 sets – Preview HERE
Siniakova d. Gavrilova in 3 sets – All four matches are intriguing but this one could be the highlight in what will be a first time meeting. Siniakova’s got the more intent but Gavrilova has the variety and tricks but that might just send Siniakova round the bend. I’ll go for Siniakova to score the “upset” but I feel like they are neck-and-neck in terms of form over the past few months.
Garcia d. Mattek-Sands in 2 sets – Garcia’s won their two previous matches in straights and i’ll go for the hat-trick. Garcia’s looked good of late.
Hibino d. Mladenovic in 3 sets – I’ll take a risk with this one… Hibino is coming off the back of her best ever win on tour against Stosur and a run to the final in Tashkent while Mladenovic has looked particularly shaky of late.
WTA Hong Kong R2 Predictions for Wednesday
Day 3 = 1/1
Jankovic d. Krunic in 2 sets – Ahh a first meeting between compatriots… Krunic has dropped just five games through three matches but I think Jankovic will be a huge step-up in quality. JJ herself had a convincing first round win over Sam Crawford.
WTA Hong Kong R1 Predictions for Tuesday
Day 2 = 8/10
Wozniacki d. Zheng in 2 sets – Been impressed with Zheng through much of this year but her form has dropped like a stone in recent months and she’s currently on a five match losing streak. Her record in three setters has been woeful and i’m sensing confidence is low. It’s a shame because her game is fun and she’s really becoming accomplished at the net. Wozniacki, with rejuvenated confidence, for the win.
Stosur d. Hibino in 2 sets – Stosur is yet to pick up a win in Asia and no longer has the tournament in Osaka to boost spirits! Hibino reached the final of Tashkent a few weeks back, but I think this could be a good match-up for Stosur to get back on track.
Kerber d. Sakkari in 2 sets – This could be fun… Sakkari is a really intense competitor and will most likely make Kerber work for it. I’m unsure with Angie about the leg injury which is why I had her out early in my Draw Challenge. Based on how i’ve predicted Angie this year, she’s bound to win the tournament…
Konta d. Broady in 2 sets – A tough turnaround for Konta – the serve may not have the pace of Broady but she’s got a much more effective all-court game. I’d still give Konta the nod with the motivation of Singapore.
Wang d. Zhang in 2 sets – This is their seventh meeting with the #73, Wang and #524, Zhang level at 3-3 in their head-to-head. Wang, who has been successful on the ITF circuit this year, won their last match in 2015 in Suzhou, 6-1 6-0.
Jankovic d. Crawford in 3 sets – Crawford has a big game but Jankovic, who won Hong Kong last year, has been playing much better in Asia. A mild upset alert but going for JJ in 3.
Mladenovic d. Jakupovic in 2 sets – Jakupovic is eight places off her career best ranking of #160. This is her first WTA main draw match of 2016 and Mladenovic is the highest ranked opponent she will have faced in her entire career.
Erakovic d. Watson in 3 sets – Their only previous encounter was a lengthy three setter in Cincy which Erakovic won. I’d fancy a similar result in this one with Watson struggling of late.
Mattek-Sands d. Eraydin in 2 sets – A great opportunity for Mattek-Sands against the world # 276 who is playing her first ever WTA main draw match.
Garcia d. Martincova in 2 sets – First meeting, going for two tight sets. Garcia definitely seems to be on the up with more solid wins of late.
WTA Hong Kong R1 Predictions for Monday
Day 1 = 5/5
V.Williams d. Ozaki in 2 sets – Ozaki beat Stephens in Washington earlier this year and is just five places off her career high ranking at 116 right now. Still, i’d expect Venus to win this match in straights.
Siniakova d. Gibbs in 2 sets – Gibbs has really made a name for herself this year with her social media presence. Her tennis was doing all the talking early on but her form during the second half of the season has simmered, not for the want of trying! Siniakova’s been playing well through Asia and she’s pulled away from Gibbs in terms of ranking. I’d go for Siniakova who has more weapons at her disposal. Her temper and antics still worry me though…
Cornet d. Lepchenko in 3 sets – This match has third set tiebreak written all over it… I’ll be surprised if this doesn’t go the distance!
Chirico d. Lee in 2 sets – A big chance for Chirico to get off to a good start against the world # 281. Been a good year for Louisa with some good wins dotted along the way, but still hasn’t found the consistency week-to-week.
Gavrilova d. Zhu in 2 sets – Impressed by Gavrilova in Beijing after a few dodgy tournaments
