WTA Budapest SF Prediction for Saturday
Day 6 – 0/1
Goerges d. Babos in 3 sets – First time match-up, Goerges has been goooood in the past two matches. Babos has won three singles matches this week, three more than she has managed all year! I have more faith in Goerges….
WTA Budapest QF Predictions for Friday
Day 5 – 0/3
Dodin d. Babos in 3 sets – Their only previous match was a tight three setter in Poitiers which Babos won, 7-5 in the third set. Both have won back-to-back matches for the first time in 2017. I think it’s a 50-50 match and with Dodin indoors, i’ve gone for the Frenchwoman.
Wickmayer d. Goerges in 3 sets – Goerges snapped a five match losing streak to Wickmayer with a straight sets win at the US Open last year. Goerges has played some good stuff this year but I find myself drawn to Wickmayer in this match-up and I can’t really explain why!
Beck d. Witthoeft in 2 sets – As i’ve mentioned this week, I like Witthoeft and I think she’s better than her ranking would suggest. Beck is a good indoors player and with two excellent wins under her belt, I think her consistency and reliability could be the difference.
WTA Budapest R2 Predictions for Thursday
Day 4 – 4/4
Wickmayer d. Khromacheva in 2 sets – I’m impressed the two matches that Wickmayer has played since missing nine match points against Safarova she has won 7-5 in the third set! Wickmayer is nowhere near as reliable as she used to be when she was a regulation top 30 player but I like her to win this match in straights.
Witthoeft d. Falconi in 3 sets – I remember being traumatised by Witthoeft-Falconi from Indian Wells last year 😂. Falconi won their most recent match in qualifying for Sydney, 6-4 6-2 but i’d expect things to change match-to-match based on what I saw in IW when Witthoeft won, 0-6 6-4 6-4.
Babos d. Blinkova in 3 sets – I’ve said before Blinkova is one to watch so expecting a potential close one. A huge weight should have lifted from Babos’s shoulders after finally getting a win on the WTA tour this year.
Dodin d. Korpatsch in 2 sets – Dodin gets another player outside of the world’s top 150. She makes me nervous but enjoyed a solid enough win in the first round.
WTA Budapest R2 Predictions for Wednesday
Day 3 – 2/2
Beck d. Stollar in 2 sets – Stunning win for Stollar in the first round. I’d go for Beck in this one but I was confident in Kovinic in the first round!
Sasnovich d. Parmentier in 3 sets – Expecting a close one, liking the qualifier in this one. Sasnovich has won eight of her last ten matches.
WTA Budapest R1 Predictions for Wednesday
Day 3 – 4/6
Wickmayer d. Shinkova in 2 sets – Wickmayer managed to put the Safarova loss behind her with a 7-5 third set win over Cirstea in Fed Cup. She’s my finalist this week but I really didn’t have a clue from the top half!
Dodin d. Galfi in 3 sets – Dodin is about as unpredictable as they came so i’d put this as a 50-50 match against the 18-year-old home player, Galfi who is ranked at #154 and playing her second WTA main draw match.
Babos d. Soylu in 2 sets – Interested to see how Babos copes playing at home. She’s going for her first WTA main draw match in singles of 2017 and is currently on an eight match losing streak…
Allertova d. Khromacheva in 2 sets – I nearly went for Allertova as my finalist as i’ve always thought she was talented but she hasn’t started 2017 at all well and is going for her first main draw win of 2017. I think she’ll get it here as she’s normally pretty potent indoors.
Stefkova d. Falconi in 2 sets – This is the second WTA main draw that Stefkova has qualified for in 2017. Despite being the lower ranked player, I’d like her chances in this match.
Witthoeft d. Cirstea in 3 sets – I think this will be a close one (so it’ll be a one-sided beatdown haha) and my instinct was Witthoeft. Cirstea had a great tournament at the Australian Open but has been inconsistent elsewhere. Witthoeft has been similarly inconsistent but i’ve seen some good stuff from her in the past year or so.
WTA Budapest R1 Predictions for Tuesday
Day 2 – 1/4
Blinkova d. Broady in 3 sets – Blinkova is a talented player to sit up and take notice of. A good chance here.
Kontaveit d. Goerges in 3 sets – At the last minute i’ve gone for Kontaveit, mainly through the concern for the knee sprain that Goerges picked up in Fed Cup duty.
Flipkens d. Sasnovich in 3 sets – Sasnovich won their only previous match, 6-1 6-2. The qualifiers are all decent and making me second guess myself! Sticking with Flipkens on this one…
Kovinic d. Stollar in 2 sets – Kovinic having a rough year but has drawn lucky against #282 in the world, Stollar. Still a question mark for Kovinic?
WTA Budapest R1 Predictions for Monday
Day 1 – 3/4
Alexandrova d. Vekic in 3 sets – Alexandrova won indoors in Limoges which is my main reason for picking her here. Vekic can be good, but she’s rarely consistent.
Beck d. Cepelova in 2 sets – Neither have played particularly well in 2017. Cepelova has more variety to her game but Beck probably has a more consistent base level which is what i’ve gone for based on their starts to the year. Beck is also decent indoors and has won her last three matches against Cepelova.
Parmentier d. Kozlova in 3 sets – Kozlova is a decent player and i’d like to see her step up against a seed here. Heads says Parmentier, who has won their last two matches including a come-from-behind, 1-6 7-6(3) 6-1 win at Indian Wells last year, will nick it.
Hsieh d. Sorribes Tormo in 2 sets – Hsieh for the win, never been that impressed with SST’s game.
