Petra Kvitova and Jelena Ostapenko are set to meet in the second round of the Aegon Classic on Thursday… that’s if the weather holds up! The return of Petra to grass is always an exciting sight and she began the 2016 grass court season in style. In one of the blockbuster first round match-ups in…
Monday was a very quiet day as the Great British summer was in full swing! Three main draw matches did finish in Birmingham, which was probably a decent showing after play was delayed for many hours due to RAIN. Tuesday’s weather forecast looks dicey again (as does Wednesday and Thursday) but hopefully play won’t be…
In ANOTHER all-Czech first rounder, the number eight seed and Nottingham champion, Karolina Pliskova, takes on Barbora Strycova at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham. The four Czech players, who all like the grass, have had a seriously rough deal with this draw. Pliskova heads into Birmingham where she is defending finals points with a nice injection…
Why, draw gods, whyyyy?! In a blockbuster first round match-up at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham, the number five seed, Petra Kvitova takes on fellow Czech, Lucie Safarova. Originally, Safarova was due to play Simona Halep but Kvitova was moved to Halep’s place in the draw reshuffle after the Romanian player pulled out due to an achilles injury. Kvitova and…
The Aegon Classic in Birmingham will be next week’s star attraction on the WTA tour. Also worth a mention is the new tournament in Mallorca, which has a wonderful looking centre court. I’m loving this time of the season when all my grass court pictures are actually relevant! As a Brit, i’ll be keeping the…
As qualifying began in Birmingham, Mallorca, Queens and Halle, there were seven tournaments to try and keep up with on Saturday! I decided not to go to Birmingham qualifying in the end although i’m glad to see they got most of the matches were completed without few interruptions. I’m saving myself for Eastbourne and Wimbledon… this…
Apologies for no post yesterday. As I think i’ve said before, Thursday is my tennis club night and it was a perfect evening weather-wise. I’m still waiting for that moment when everything clicks in my game; my serve was dreadful last night (i’ve never served so many double faults into the net!) but my volleys and…
Wednesday’s action in Nottingham and Rosmalen was overshadowed by the news that Maria Sharapova is set to face a two year ban for a failed drugs test…. My Twitter timeline was a mess this afternoon! More of the Sharapova ruling to come in this post. Second round action began on Wednesday in Nottingham and Rosmalen, and will conclude on…
First round action was completed on Tuesday at the two WTA tournaments this week at the Aegon Open in Nottingham and the Ricoh Open in Rosmalen. There were two prominent storylines; the return of some star names from injuries and a rough day for the Brits in Nottingham. Read on for Tuesday’s Set Points… Four Brits were…
The WTA grass court season kicked off on Monday with first round action in both Nottingham and Rosmalen/’s-Hertogenbosch (there are so many names for this tournament, I don’t know what is the most accurate!). It’s my intention to do a daily round-up for each day of the grass court season, but it might be difficult…
