Andrea Petkovic won her sixth WTA title at the BNP Paribas Fortis Diamond Games as Carla Suarez Navarro was forced to pull out of the tournament with a neck injury. It’s such a shame when this happens and it was a big occasion for Carla as it was her first Premier final. Many readers voiced their support for Carla in the comments section on yesterday’s final preview so it is disappointing we didn’t get to see what happened! In a nice bonus for the fans, Clijsters played an exhibition set with Petkovic. From the first point you can see Kim has still got it. The tennis in this final trumped some of the matches we’ve seen this week in Antwerp and it was the most animated the crowd have been all week. Clijsters won the exhibition, 5-3.
Antwerp was good this week and my favourite match was the second semi-final yesterday between Petkovic and Zahlavova Strycova. It’s great to have night matches so I can actually watch some live tennis in the evenings. Coverage now quickly moves to Dubai where main draw action is already underway. I’ll have a preview for the only second round match on the Monday schedule out later tonight. Also the latest update for Racket Rally is coming!

Well done to Petkovic. She earned her win, no matter whether she beat CSN or not.

Disagree. It’s ridiculous to award titles like this.

As Martina once said, you can only play who you’re given to play… Petkovic won all of her matches and fought to the end, so she deserved her win.
It’s funny because Andrea was beaten by Halep in a tough encounter last year and then Simona pulled out of the next match with injury. People said back then that Petkovic should have been given the chance to play on, but others pointed out that she lost her match so the competition rightly ended for her there.

I wish WTA should allow a substitute semi-finalist to play for the final in case the other one couldn’t make (i.e. lucky loser).

I also say well done to Petkovic…it was certainly a turnaround in her fortunes this time round, a player who has suffered much disappointment through her injuries in the past. Attrition plays a major role in tennis as it does in most sport. Carla will return to fight another day.
