I’m finding it hard to get excited about the men’s draw with this ridiculous scheduling at the US Open. Two second round matches will be completed on Wednesday with first round action concluding too. In my opinion, the tournament loses all sense of flow and those players who have to play their first round matches on the Wednesday are at a real disadvantage. The selection of matches for Thursday is also pretty grim. Hopefully there should be some interesting matches from the weekend… and I might cheer up as well.
1. Nick Kyrgios v Andreas Seppi (ATP US Open, R2)
Nick Kyrgios‘s win on Monday received more attention for his antics rather than the actual win. Kyrgios beat the number 21 seed, Mikhail Youzhny, 7-5 7-6(4) 2-6 7-6(1). Youzhny had served for the fourth set. Although Youzhny hasn’t had a good year, this was another impressive victory for the 19-year-old. Kyrgios will play Andreas Seppi in the second round. The Italian world number 49 crushed Sergiy Stakhovsky in straight sets. Seppi has had a quiet year, posting just three quarter-final appearances all year, of which one came last week in Winston-Salem. This is a difficult match to call because there’s not a lot of data to judge Kyrgios on. Seppi could sweep up if Kyrgios delivers an erratic performance, but Kyrgios’s best is likely to top Seppi’s best…
