It had been a good start to the season for Richard Gasquet having claimed two titles in Doha and Montpellier in the first two months of the season. However the Frenchman had struggled to beat the big guns with world number 24, Jerzy Janowicz his highest scalp to date. That has all changed in Miami though where Gasquet followed up his three set win over Nicolas Almagro with a 6-3 6-3 triumph over the number 4 seed, Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals.
Gasquet now plays one of the big four for the first time this year as he takes on Andy Murray, who beat Marin Cilic in the quarter-finals with a 6-3 6-4 victory. Gasquet’s head-to-head with Murray is an intriguing one; Murray leads 4-3 with two wins coming from two sets down on the big stage at Roland Garros and most famously, at Wimbledon in 2008. Gasquet did manage a win over Murray on clay in Rome last year, but I think he’ll struggle to find a way past Murray on hard courts.
