Girllll, I don’t know.

I loved the Twitter Blue Room with Nick McCarvel at the Australian Open. Petko is a hoot.
My favourite Twitter Blue Room was with Barbora Strycova – I loved her story of winning a microwave on Czech TV!

One of my favourite GIFs of the year – thanks, Ashish!
And finally, a lighter moment from the Hong Kong final that was delayed for hours and hours due to rain.
A fine trio of posts, especially this one.
Random thought: Bouchard now strikes me as the Baghdatis of the women’s game. She’s reached one slam final, showing great promise, but hasn’t been anywhere near reaching another for a long time. Somewhat disappointing. I wish her luck.

Thanks, David. An interesting comparison there. I can’t quite work out Bouchard. Her performance vs. Sharapova was world class but she didn’t come close to replicating that form at all during the rest of the season.

Well her game style has always been problematic. Early on she was considered the next gen Wozniacki and really forced an aggressive style of play which doesn’t come naturally to her and is so high risk… at this point she should probably focus on using her incredible movement and play more defensively, stepping into the court when it’s right and not unnecessarily.

Oh yes forgot all about that, she was definitely more defensive when she broke through on the tour.

What I recall about Genie this year (apart from that date with a fan!) was a match against Aga Radwanska on the Asian swing – I can’t remember which tournament – where Aga was cruising to a comfortable victory over a clearly lacklustre opponent until it got to match point against Genie, at which point she suddenly came to life and Aga had a real battle on her hands. She won, but only after a struggle.
I found myself thinking “Why couldn’t she have done this before”? Aga even paid credit to her during the on-court interview after the match.

Another funny moment – Daria Gavrilova up against Kris Pliskova and winning handily (again I forget the rournament) when a cat escaped onto the court and distracts Daria who’s serving for the match and gets broken as a result. I wonder how many cans of Whiskas that cost Kris?

Everyone in the arena saw the house cat sneaking up behind Dasha,- except Dasha. When she turned around and saw the creature, for a split second, she probably thought it was a full grown Africa Lion ready to pounce. It appeared to take several games to get her nerves back under control.(Moscow)
